  • Duvet

I promised I would post a picture of the duvet cover I made at the beginning of this month as soon as I made my bed.  So, here it is......102_1547  Now I just need to get working on a bed skirt.

It has been a really beautiful fall here.  We raked up all the leaves in the back yard and Gabe had a great time jumping in them.  This was only one of many piles we accumulated.

We also went on a field trip with Gabe's preschool.  They visited a farm.  They are all wearing similar shirts they made doing apple prints.  It was such a beautiful day and Gabe picked out a perfectly round pumpkin!  102_1476

  • Busy Busy Busy!

Yes, I haven't been posting to the blog in a while because I've been busy.  You've all heard that before.  It's getting down right cold here.  On Wednesday the high for the day is 47 (degrees Farenheit).  Brrrrrr! But that has nothing to do with what I have been busy doing.

On the knitting front there has not been much to show.  I did finish off a pair of wool socks for Gabe in a week.  Not bad huh!  But I have still not finished my skirt I have been working on since the drive out to NY.  Or the skirt I still need to finish up for my neice - all it needs is an elastic band!  DH is still waiting on a wool cap and DD is now asking for leg warmers.  I need to get crackin!!!  But before any of that stuff can get done, I need to work on DS's Halloween costume.  Here are the socks I finished for Gabe, they have already been worn and washed twice since they came off the needles.  gabes socks

But clearly that hasn't taken me THAT long to do, so what else has been taking up our time?? Well, we have been working on our dining room for quite a while.  Pretty much since we moved in almost 4 months ago.  This project has taken forever to complete.  And it's pretty much done.  I still need to get a rug for the room, I haven't found the perfect one yet!  And maybe some artwork on the walls although DH doesn't really want to add that yet.  I don't think he wants to mess up the beautiful job he did on the wallpaper.  I don't blame him for feeling that way.  We bought the light fixture from Restoration Hardware and paid more than we wanted to on it.  I just couldn't find this fixture anywhere else.  I fell in love with it and couldn't imagine a different one in it's place.  Luckily we had enough points on our credit card for a gift certificate there so we didn't pay as much for it as we could have had to.  But after we installed the light and unwrapped the shade, we found that the shade is pretty beat up.  They are going to send us a new one but I couldn't wait to get pictures up to show you what we have done.  So please imagine the light does not look like someone hit it with a baseball bat.  So here are a few before pictures: dining room 1 dining room 2 dining room 3 dining room 4 And here are a few after shots: 1 2 3 4 5 6 I don't think you can see it in the before shots but the thing on the ceiling around the light fixture, was a blue-white but we painted it to match the chair rail and wainscotting (sp??)  I am going to sew some roman shades once I finish Gabe's costume.  I love our light fixture.  I don't feel right calling it a chandelier because it doesn't seem to evoke that kind of I don't know...  But it gives off this very soft and gentle light.  Not dim but gentle.  I LOVE IT!!!  :)  Oh, and that grey fabric in the middle of the dining room table is supposed to be my attempt to decorate for Halloween.  It's torn gauze but I need to get a black tablecloth to go under it.

We also steamed off all the wall paper in the living room and found two little notes under it.  One said the name and address of the person who wallpapered the room as well as the date..May 1956 and then the other said re-papered by (name of person) their address and May 1985.  I hope it doesn't take us until May to finish this room but that would be quite a coincidence!

I also sewed a duvet cover for our bed.  I don't have pictures right now because I haven't made the bed yet but I will post them soon!  It started to get REALLY cold at night and our old thin little cotton one was shredded in the move so I made this one out of fleece.  A nice heavy fleece.  It has been perfect to sleep under these last few nights.  I bought the fleece when Joanne's was having a 50% off sale so it only cost me $30 to make it!   I love good deals!

  • It's been a bit since I've blogged.  I've been busy, what can I say?  I finished the impossible lace scarf that has taken me three tries to get it "just so".    I finished it a while ago and then frogged the whole thing because too much yarn was left over.  I wanted this to be it for the yarn and get it out of my stash.  I don't need a bunch of walnut sized balls left over from various yarns that don't really go together in any cohesive way.  I added one more pattern repeat and then knit until I felt it was "done".  So two nights ago I did a sewn bind off and tucked in all the ends.  Now I have to block it.  I don't have any blocking wires and after blocking my icarus shawl I swore I would never block lace again without wires.  Now I need to either find someone who will loan me theirs for a bit or break down and buy some for myself.  With the way funds are going for us, I'm hoping to find someone to loan me theirs.

Madi is off on a sleepover tonight with her best friend.  They are so super excited.  I just hope she is ready to be picked up at 8:30 tomorrow morning for Sunday School!

It's all rainy here and making me feel like I need to do some baking or something.  What I really need to do is get working on Gabe's halloween costume and the Halloween monsters.  I'll post pictures as I finish them.  :)

I have a doula training all next weekend.  I'm pretty excited to just get going with it so I can be officially certified.  The more letters after my name the better.

Steve has had some job stuff come up so please just keep praying for our family.

  • Today is my birthday.

My son is sick.  We found out we have a leak in the floor pan of the original with the house (83 years old) elaborately tiled shower that the plumber couldn't even give us an estimate on.  He had to call the office to set up an appointment with the remodel guy for an estimate.   It's going to be expensive!  I can feel it.   My aunt's mom died this morning.

Today is my birthday.....I am 30.

  • Today was Gabe's first day of preschool!  He woke up and waved goodbye to his sister as she got on the bus.  Then sat down to a big breakfast of waffles and eggs.  102_1098   After he got dressed he posed for the required first day of school pictures in front of the house 102_1107  He was very excited to go.  Ever since we moved here we have not seen any traffic - nothing like in CA.  SO much to our surprise, we came across this as we entered the freeway on the way to preschool 102_1112  I don't know if you can tell but it stretches as far as you can see.  Unheard of here (so far at least!). Gabe thought it was all the other mommies and daddies taking their children to the first day of preschool too.  :)  We arrived 102_1114 and went in.  His school grounds are just beautiful.  So much grass and trees and green green green!!!  There isn't even a fence around the yard!  102_1115 He found his cubby and snack chair 102_1116  It was kind of funny how none of us moms knew exactly when to leave.  We all sort of hovered for a while until one of the more "seasoned" moms kissed her daughter on the head and left.  That was a bit of a cue for the rest of us.  :)  I kissed Gabe and told him we will be there when he gets out.  He waved and was totally fine.  It felt so strange to leave him there.  I haven't been without him by my side in so long.  I ran a few errands and went back early.  I was able to spy him playing on the playground for a bit without him noticing.  He looked so happy, confident, and independant.  What a beautiful little boy my baby has turned out to be!

About Me

  • I am a stay at home, soaker knitting, unmedicated natural birthing mama of a wonderful four year old son as well as a twelve year old, profoundly deaf daughter (who acts like she's 15!) I also volunteer at my church as a youth pastor with my husband and two of our friends. I LOVE to knit and you can find me starting projects before I can finish them. I'd cherish a large family but I'll just enjoy the blessing of my kids. I love to ride my bike and listen to audiobooks while I knit. I am a Bradley Birth instructor and trying to go into nursing.
